Former Ankeny Centennial baseball standout Trey Morris has been named to the Division II Iowa Community College Athletic Conference All-Region second team.
A freshman at Ellsworth Community College, Morris was selected to the squad as an infielder. He helped the Panthers to a 20-38 record this season.
Morris played in all 58 games. He batted .330 with five home runs, 14 doubles and 26 RBIs.
Like he did in high school, Morris also served as one of Ellsworth’s top pitchers. He made 10 appearances, including nine starts, and compiled a 3-4 mark with a 6.15 ERA.
Three of Morris’ teammates also earned All-Region honors. Sophomore designated hitter Carlos Aranda was named to the first team, while sophomore outfielder Kainoa Torres received honorable mention. Sophomore infielder TJ Truso was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Ellsworth closed out its season on May 8-9 with a pair of losses to Northeast (Neb.) in the best-of-three opening round series in the Region XI postseason tournament. Northeast scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 10th inning to claim a 3-2 victory in the first game, then came back the following afternoon for an 11-3 decision.
