Senior pitcher Jenna Wendt helped the Ankeny Centennial softball team to a 33-10 record and a second-place finish in Class 5A this season.
Wendt posted a 6-2 mark with a 4.24 ERA. She also batted .302 with one home run, three doubles and 18 RBIs.
Wendt, who will play for Northwestern College next year, played a key role in the Jaguars’ 8-1 victory over Pleasant Valley in the Class 5A semifinals on July 21. She drew a one-out walk in the fifth inning to ignite Centennial’s rally from a 1-0 deficit.
“We talk to our girls anytime your role gets called you never know when that’s going to be but you’ve got to be ready to go,” Centennial coach Brett Delaney said at the time. “Jenna’s been ready and she was eager in the dugout, and she got the opportunity and she got that walk and got that thing going for us.”
