Tuesday’s dual meet against visiting Ottumwa turned out to be more of an intrasquad scrimmage for the Ankeny girls’ swimming team.
The Hawkettes dominated the non-conference meet, winning every event en route to a 150-32 victory at Trail Point Aquatics Center. They evened their record at 1-1.
Ankeny swept the top two or three places in most of the events.
“We continue to experiment with our lineup,” said Ankeny coach Michelle Stout. “Tonight quite a few of the girls tried events they don’t typically swim and stepped outside of their comfort zones. We also set up a number of races for the girls to challenge teammates who don’t always get an opportunity to compete against each other in a meet.”
Alexis Henning won a pair of individual events. She took the 50 freestyle in 25.17 seconds, then later took the 100 backstroke in 1:00.55.
Henning also teamed up with Mariah Parton, Caroline Walker and Sydney Madetzke to win the 200 medley relay. Ankeny’s ‘B’ unit was clocked in 1:54.14, edging the Hawkettes’ ‘A’ squad by .27 seconds.
Madetzke captured the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:39.45. Parton took the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.74.
Leah Schafer won the 200 freestyle in 2:07.42. Rachel Rolow followed with a victory in the 200 individual medley, posting a time of 2:17.35.
Anja Peck took the 100 butterfly in 1:01.74. Josie Parton won the 100 freestyle in 56.54 seconds.
Parton later combined with Riley Loeffler, Walker and Sophie Loeffler to win the 400 freestyle relay. The Hawkettes were clocked in 3:47.91.
Ankeny also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:44.71. That team consisted of Sophie Loeffler, Schafer, Erica Peters and Gracie Lindaman.
“I was pleased with some of the technical adjustments I’ve seen from the girls with their racing skills,” Stout said. “Some of these resulted in immediate time reductions from last week’s meet.”
Peters also won the diving event with a total of 273.45 points. Teammate Hannah Kolars was second with 245.70.
“Although the divers were unchallenged, they turned in solid performances with Hannah hitting a season-high score,” Stout said.
Ankeny will travel to Newton on Thursday for a non-conference meet against the Cardinals. The Hawkettes will visit Fort Dodge on Tuesday for their CIML Iowa Conference opener, then will compete in the Iowa City High Invitational on Sept. 18.
“These two weeks will challenge us with four meets in 12 days,” Stout said.
