Kenna Sauer transferred to Texas Tech looking for a fresh start to her collegiate volleyball career.
It turned out to be a good move.
Sauer led the Red Raiders to a 3-0 record in the Green Wave Invitational last weekend at Birmingham, Ala. The Missouri transfer was named tournament MVP after pounding 30 kills in a four-set victory over Sam Houston, the first 30-kill performance by a Texas Tech player since Emily Hill in 2019.
On Tuesday, the former Ankeny Centennial star was named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Teammate KJ Adams was selected Defensive Player of the Week.
Sauer totaled 49 kills on the weekend, averaging 4.9 per set. She averaged 7.5 kills per set against Sam Houston while hitting .391. In a win over Tulane, she set a career-high with four aces.
Sauer leads the Red Raiders (10-3) in kills (130), kills per set (3.51), points (156) and points per set (4.22). She ranks in the top 10 of the Big 12 in kills, aces per set and points.
