The scores were higher across the board in the Southeast Polk Invitational on Wednesday at Copper Creek Golf Course.
Despite some sunny skies, many of the boys’ golf squads in the 11-team field struggled with the soggy conditions after heavy rains pelted the course over the last 10 days. A lack of practice time during that stretch may have also been a contributing factor.
Ankeny Centennial placed fifth with a 324 total, while Ankeny finished seventh with a 331. It was the Hawks’ worst score of the season and the Jaguars’ third-worst total.
Norwalk shot a 302 to capture the team title. Southeast Polk was second with a 304, and Dowling Catholic was another two strokes back in third with a 306.
Elijah Anderson of Dowling carded a 72 to earn medalist honors. Carter Mulcahy of Southeast Polk also shot a 72 and was the runner-up.
Centennial’s Everett Bloyer earned a top-10 finish. He placed 10th with a 77.
Drew Boyd led Ankeny with a 78. He placed 17th.
Nathan Grider and Kinnick Nelson each fired an 82 for the Jaguars. Ricky Beckwith had an 83, Bennett Lewis shot an 86, and Charlie Knoll finished with an 87.
Oliver Bormann carded an 82 for the Hawks. Drake Shadwick fired an 83, Trey Huynh had an 88, Charlie McHose shot a 91, and Ashton Weddingfeld added a 94.
Ankeny will host a CIML Conference triangular meet against Urbandale and Waukee Northwest on Thursday. The action gets under way at 9 a.m. at Otter Creek.
Centennial will face Southeast Polk and Northwest in a triangular meet on Monday at River Valley Golf Course in Adel, beginning at 9 a.m.
