The Ankeny Centennial girls’ basketball team showed no signs of fatigue on Friday after playing a game at Fort Dodge just 24 hours earlier.
The fourth-ranked Jaguars rolled to a 67-17 victory over visiting Mason City to maintain sole possession of first place in the CIML Iowa Conference. They improved to 7-1 in the league and 12-2 overall, while Mason City’s records dropped to 4-5 and 7-9.
“I was impressed with how we came out with the game the night before,” said Centennial coach Scott DeJong.
Centennial had posted a 39-31 win at Mason City on Dec. 16. In that game, the Jaguars trailed by 25-23 after three quarters before rallying for the victory.
On Friday, Centennial jumped out to a 22-6 lead at the end of the first period and held a 36-12 advantage at halftime. The Jaguars then held Mason City to just three and two points in the final two quarters.
“We got off to a great start and were consistent throughout the game,” DeJong said. “We shot the ball well and shut down their two guards.”
Cleao Murray led Centennial with 20 points. Kennedy White chipped in 13, and Averi Porter added nine.
The Jaguars will play a non-conference game at Des Moines East on Tuesday.
