Emma Gott, Avery Matthews, Liz Proctor and Eden Gibson each scored a pair of goals and the second-ranked Ankeny girls’ soccer team rolled to a 10-0 victory at Marshalltown in a CIML Iowa Conference game on Tuesday.
Allie Heller and Brooke Harrington each added a goal for the Hawkettes, who improved to 2-0 in the conference and 7-0 overall. Marshalltown’s records dropped to 0-2 and 0-7.
“It was similar to the Ottumwa game last week with the track meet in Ames going on, we were down to very few full-time varsity players,” said Ankeny coach Simon Brown. “Coming off the big performance (on Monday) against Dowling, we exerted a lot of energy so it was great to see the girls come out firing early, scoring inside 2 minutes again.”
Teja Pritchard returned to Ankeny’s lineup for the first time since April 2, when she suffered an injury during a win over Council Bluffs Lincoln.
“It was nice to get Teja some minutes, and then we had five girls from the junior varsity come up and help us with subs and get some good minutes and experience,” Brown said.
Goalkeeper Jasmine Moser made one save before being replaced by Taevah Ganahi, who played most of the game. The Hawkettes have yet to allow a goal this season.
“We look forward to taking a couple days to recover and get ready for Indianola (3-6) on Friday,” Brown said.
