The Waukee Northwest girls’ tennis team has seen enough of its conference rivals from Ankeny.
After dropping an 11-0 decision at Ankeny on Thursday afternoon, the Wolves returned home for another meet against visiting Ankeny Centennial and suffered an 8-3 loss.
It was the third straight victory for the Jaguars, who improved to 2-2 in the CIML Iowa Conference and 5-3 overall. Northwest’s records dropped to 2-3 and 4-3.
“This was a successful week for our team,” said Centennial coach Alli Gustafson, whose squad also defeated Des Moines Hoover on Monday and 10th-ranked Waukee on Tuesday. “Three wins helped to build the girls’ confidence. Going into the season, only one of our players had played varsity singles before. However, each meet brings more experience, and it is fun to see each of them improve meet to meet. In singles, everyone is looking much more calm and confident! This helps us tremendously in securing our wins.”
The Jaguars won five of the six singles matches. They added three more wins in doubles to seal the victory.
Centennial will host a CIML Iowa Conference dual meet against Fort Dodge (1-4) on Monday.
