Ankeny Centennial boys’ tennis coach Tami Lewton feels like her team is close to getting over the hump.
The Jaguars dropped an 8-3 decision to visiting Mason City, the No. 7 team in Class 2A, on Tuesday. Mason City won three of the five tiebreakers in the meet.
“We still struggle with tiebreakers,” said Lewton. “We will be dangerous if we can figure those out.”
Centennial got victories in singles from Caleb Peterson at the No. 1 spot and Joel Nelson at No. 6. The No. 5 doubles team of Braden Miller and Andrew Law also won.
“It was a tough match, but Caleb and Joel did a great job in singles,” Lewton said. “The new combination of Braden and Andrew has been a bright spot in our lineup at 5 doubles.”
Mason City improved to 3-2 in the CIML Iowa Conference and 5-3 overall. The Jaguars’ records dropped to 2-4 and 5-7.
