Ankeny Centennial softball coach Brett Delaney juggled his lineup after the Jaguars scored just two runs in a doubleheader loss at top-ranked Waukee Northwest on Monday.
Some of his moves paid off on Tuesday.
Sophomore Addi Starr, moved from the leadoff position to the No. 3 spot in the batting order, went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and scored a run as No. 5 Centennial defeated visiting North Polk, 5-2, in a non-conference game. The Comets are ranked 10th in Class 4A.
Payton Drefke, moved into the No. 2 spot, also doubled and knocked in two runs. Claire Suarez got a start at second base and scored a run while knocking in another.
Jadeyn Stahr (5-2) was the winning pitcher. She tossed an eight-hitter and had three strikeouts.
Centennial (8-6) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. The Jaguars added another run in the third and two more in the fourth.
Stahr took a shutout into the fifth inning before North Polk (5-6) scored its first run. The Comets added another run in the sixth.
The Jaguars will now be off until Monday, when they host a CIML Iowa Conference doubleheader against No. 13 Ames (9-3).
