The Ankeny baseball team remained tied for first place in the CIML Iowa Conference by sweeping a doubleheader on Wednesday at Marshalltown.
The Hawks used an eight-run fifth inning to win the opener, 16-5. They then won another five-inning contest, 13-0, to complete the sweep.
Ankeny improved to 8-2 in the conference and 9-6 overall. The Hawks are tied for the league lead with seventh-ranked Waukee Northwest, which swept a twinbill at Mason City on Wednesday.
Marshalltown’s records dropped to 0-8 and 3-14. The Bobcats, who have lost all eight conference games by 10 runs or more, are now on a six-game losing skid.
Tamden Webb-Tate went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and five RBIs in the opener. Thomas DeBrower went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs.
Jamison Patton and Ben Sandvig also went 2-for-4 in the win. Patton hit his second home run of the season and drove in two runs, while Sandvig had one RBI.
Isaiah Otten went 2-for-2 with a double. Max Watson and Jack Clevidence each had an RBI.
Clevidence (2-0) was also the winning pitcher. He allowed one earned run on four hits over the first four innings and had six strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Ankeny’s Brock Adamson (1-2) tossed a one-hit shutout. He walked one and had 10 strikeouts.
Patton went 2-for-3 with a double and five RBIs. Sandvig went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.
DeBrower went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and an RBI. Webb-Tate doubled and knocked in two runs, while Clevidence doubled and drove in a run.
The Hawks will travel to Fort Dodge on Monday for another conference doubleheader against the Dodgers (7-9).
