Ankeny Centennial baseball standout Nick Severson has decided to go the junior college route.
Severson, a senior catcher, announced on Monday that he has verbally committed to play for Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.
“I had some other schools looking at me, and I received offers from some of them like Northwest Missouri State,” said Severson. “But overall, on the first visit to Iowa Central it felt like a place that could lead me to grow into the best baseball player and teammate I could be before committing to a four-year school.”
Severson helped lead the Jaguars to a 25-14 record last season. He batted .438 with two home runs, seven triples and 38 RBIs.
Severson was selected to the Class 4A all-state second team by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. He was also named to the CIML Iowa Conference first team and to the Class 4A North Central District first team.
As a sophomore, Severson started 24 games for Centennial. He batted .205 with two homers and 14 RBIs.
