It was a memorable Senior Night for the Ankeny Centennial baseball team.
The second-ranked Jaguars scored seven runs in the fourth inning and went on to defeat visiting Newton, 11-1, in five innings in a non-conference game on Friday.
Centennial raised its record to 6-0 on the season, while the loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Newton (4-2). The Jaguars have won every game this season by at least six runs.
Carter Bland (1-0) earned the victory on the mound. He combined with fellow senior Cole Grider on a three-hitter.
At the plate, the Jaguars got a combined five hits from the first two hitters in their lineup. Easton Miller went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while fellow senior Nick Severson went 3-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs as he lifted his average to .667.
Lucas Bruhl went 3-for-3, scored two runs and knocked in two more. His brother, Isaac, doubled and had two RBIs.
Emerson Alberhasky tripled and drove in a run. Grider and Jack Compton, another senior, also had RBIs.
Centennial will play Independence (5-2) and Davenport North (2-3) on Saturday in the Tim Heggen Classic at Ankeny.
