Former Ankeny quarterback Jase Bauer has entered the transfer portal.
A redshirt sophomore at Central Michigan, Bauer announced his decision on social media Wednesday.
“First and foremost I want to thank God for allowing me to play the game I love,” Bauer tweeted on X. “I wouldn’t be anywhere today without his love and guidance. I also want to thank my teammates and coaches, who have shaped me into the person I am today. I want to thank Chippewa nation for making these last 3 years special. Lastly, I want to thank my friends and family for supporting me along my journey. After a lot of thought and prayer, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility remaining. I’m looking forward to this next chapter. God bless!”
Bauer could be highly coveted by a Power Five program looking for an experienced quarterback. He played in all 12 games this season, helping the Chippewas to a 5-7 record.
Bauer completed 163-of-287 passes for 1,881 yards and 12 touchdowns while being intercepted eight times. He was also an effective runner, rushing for 365 yards and 10 more scores.
Bauer led Ankeny to the Class 4A state title as a senior in 2020. He was named the captain of the Class 4A all-state team.
Bauer selected Central Michigan over offers from several other schools, including walk-on offers from Iowa and Iowa State. He redshirted his first season with the Chippewas.
As a redshirt freshman in 2022, Bauer saw action in six games with one start. He accounted for 747 total yards and five touchdowns.
