Former Ankeny wrestling standout Trever Anderson posted the biggest victory of his collegiate career on Tuesday during the 2023 edition of the Journeymen Collegiate Duals at the Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, Tenn.
Anderson, a redshirt freshman at Northern Iowa who is the No. 32/31 wrestler in the nation at 125 pounds, stunned North Carolina State’s top-ranked Jakob Camacho in a 4-2 decision. He opened the dual, which the No. 2 Wolfpack eventually won by a 25-16 margin, with the monumental upset.
Following a scoreless first period, Camacho and Anderson traded point-for-point heading into the final frame. Anderson pulled off a takedown earning a 4-1 lead in the third, then held on for the win.
After the match, the wife of UNI coach Doug Schwab tweeted on X: “TREVER ANDERSON IS A BAD DUDE”.
Anderson, a two-time state champion at Ankeny, is now 2-2 on the season and 16-8 in his career. He went 14-6 with five falls while competing unattached during the 2022-23 season.
