The Ankeny boys’ soccer team tuned up for Monday’s showdown against Johnston by defeating Davenport North, 2-0, in a non-conference game on Saturday.
Landon Benge and Andrew Loder each scored a first-half goal as the Hawks raised their overall record to 4-1. Brian Jimenez and Gannon Ripley were credited with assists.
Ankeny finished with 16 shots, 12 of them on goal. Benge led the way with four shots, while all three of Loder’s shots were on goal.

Landon Quinn took the only shot for Davenport North, which dropped to 1-2 on the season.
Ankeny will now travel to Johnston on Monday for a CIML Conference game against the Dragons (4-0), who posted a 3-2 win at Waukee Northwest in its league opener on Friday. Johnston, the defending Class 4A state champion, has won 10 straight games dating back to last season.
