The ceiling for the Ankeny boys’ track team might have to be raised.
The Hawks set a new all-time Iowa best in the 4×200 relay during the Jim Duncan Invitational on Saturday at Drake Stadium. The foursome of Logan Fairchild, Devon Akers, Jack Belding and Tyler Sickerson posted a time of 1:26.12.
“We knew what the record was, and we were definitely planning to break it,” said Sickerson. “Our handoffs were pretty bad so I think we can definitely go faster, to be honest.”
Ankeny broke the school record of 1:28.12 that was set at last year’s Class 4A state meet by a full 2 seconds. Akers and Sickerson also ran on that unit.
Ankeny Centennial placed second in the event with a time of 1:28.30. The Jaguars’ squad consisted of Robert McGhee, Connor Welsch, Braeden Jackson and Lawson Langford.
Check back later for full coverage of the meet.
