Tripp Rawlings and Johnathan Carrasco combined on a seven-hitter to lead the Ankeny Centennial baseball team to a 2-1 victory at Norwalk in a non-conference game on Tuesday.
The second-ranked Jaguars improved to 14-4 on the season. Norwalk’s record dropped to 7-10.
Rawlings (3-0) racked up nine strikeouts over the first 6 1/3 innings. Carrasco recorded the final two outs to earn a save.
Norwalk’s Payton Nichols allowed just five hits in the loss. Isaac Bruhl and Preston Glatt each went 2-for-3 for the Jaguars.
Centennial took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Jackson Reed walked with two outs and went to third when Sean Stewart reached on an error, then raced home on another error.
The Jaguars added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Glatt hit his second double of the game and was replaced by Reed Anderson, who came home on another double by Emerson Alberhasky.
In the bottom of the frame, Rawlings issued a one-out walk to Kingston Lamb. Pinch-runner Joshua Pins then advanced to third on a double by Colton Moore.
Carrasco entered to face the top of the Warriors’ lineup. Pins came home and Moore moved to third on a grounder by CJ Davis, but Carrasco then retired Cole Wardlow on a grounder to short to end the game.
Wardlow had two of Norwalk’s seven hits.
The Jaguars will host a CIML Conference doubleheader against No. 5 Waukee (15-4) on Wednesday. The Warriors lead the league with a 10-2 mark and are riding a 10-game winning streak.
