The Ankeny Centennial softball team erupted for six runs in the first inning and went on to post a 10-0 victory at Interstate 35 (Truro) in a non-conference game on Monday.
Lauren Sandholm (10-3) and Cora Boyle combined on a no-hitter as top-ranked Centennial improved to 23-5 on the season. The Jaguars won for the 14th time in their last 15 games.
Sandholm tossed the first three innings before Boyle took over the pitching duties. The duo allowed four walks while recording five strikeouts.
Both hurlers also contributed at the plate. Boyle went 2-for-3, scored a run and drove in another, while Sandholm doubled and knocked in a run.
Mady Ott hit a solo home run in the second inning. It was her team-leading ninth roundtripper of the season.
Fellow sophomore McKaiden Wills later punctuated the win with a solo blast in the seventh. It was the first at-bat of the year for Wills, who underwent surgery five months ago for a rare gastrointestinal disease called MALS.
McKenna Vallejo went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Jessica Lathrop tripled and drove in a run, while Jordyn Kennedy and Addi Starr each had an RBI.
Interstate 35 dropped to 15-13 overall. The Roadrunners are ranked 10th in Class 2A.
The Jaguars will host a CIML Conference doubleheader against No. 8 Ankeny (17-12) on Wednesday.
