
After winning the Albia Invitational on Saturday, Ankeny Christian Academy is the new No. 1 volleyball team in Class 1A in the latest rankings from the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union.
The Eagles (7-1), who were fourth in the preseason rankings, swept all five of their opponents at the tournament, winning 10 consecutive sets. They then followed with a 25-19, 25-21, 27-25 victory on Tuesday at Woodward-Granger, which is now ranked 10th in Class 2A.
ACA captured three consecutive state titles under coach Michele Quick from 2022-24. The Eagles reached a regional final last year before falling to BCLUW in four sets.
ACA’s only loss this season came on Aug. 25 at Ankeny. The Hawkettes won a hard-fought match in three sets, 25-15, 23-25, 15-13.
Ankeny (7-2) remained No. 3 in the latest Class 5A rankings. Ankeny Centennial (4-3) moved up from No. 10 to No. 7.
