Ankeny softball standout Kensington Arringdale has verbally committed to play for Mississippi State.
The junior infielder announced her decision via social media on Sunday.
“I had two official offers, but I also had other visits to go on and to hear from those schools,” said Arringdale. “I went on three official visits and had two others set up, but I fell in love with Mississippi State and decided that’s where I want to be.”
Arringdale attended Ankeny Centennial as a freshman before transferring to Ankeny, where she helped the Hawkettes to a 22-22 record in their final season under coach Dave Bingham. She earned all-conference honorable mention after batting .500 with six home runs, six doubles and 19 RBIs.
Ankeny placed fourth in the Class 5A state tournament, even though Arringdale missed the tournament while she was out of Iowa playing in a national event with her travel team. The Hawkettes went 14-7 when Arringdale was in the lineup, but just 8-15 without her.
Arringdale becomes at least the second Ankeny player to head to Starkville. Pitcher Kelsey Nurnberg, who graduated from Ankeny in 2005, played for Daytona Beach Junior College before transferring to Mississippi State.
“I loved the environment there,” Arringdale said. “As soon as I walked in, I felt like that it was the place for me. I got along with all the coaches and players and related to them. I felt at home!”
