After dropping its last three dual meets, the Ankeny girls’ swimming team got back into the win column on Thursday.
The seventh-ranked Hawkettes traveled to Indianola and rolled to a 149-30 victory over the Indians in a non-conference dual meet at the Indianola Wellness Campus. They won all 12 events and swept the top three places in many of them.
“We had a great meet,” said Ankeny coach Dustin Rhoads, whose squad improved to 7-4 overall. “We were able to mix up the lineup a bit because of our depth and swim different races, which I think my team appreciated.”
Charlie Villhauer and Gracie Lindaman each won two individual events for Ankeny. Other victories were provided by Allie Kearney, Madison Trosper, Kambelle Subbert, Ava Wessels and Leah Schafer.
Villhauer won the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:08.09. She later took the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.48, where she edged teammate Lydia Crabb by just .03 seconds.
Lindaman captured the 50 freestyle in 25.98 seconds. She then won the 500 freestyle in 5:39.94.
Kearney took the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:27.05. Trosper won the 100 butterfly in 1:05.37.
Wessels won the 100 freestyle in 1:02.89. Schafer captured the 100 backstroke in 1:04.73.
Subbert won the diving event with 190.55 points. Teammate Miranda Gagne was the runner-up with 178.80 points.
Trosper added a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle. She was clocked in 26.76.
Avery Anderson and Maggie Blackmore each placed second in two events. Anderson posted times of 2:11.91 in the 200 freestyle and 5:47.12 in the 500 freestyle, while Blackmore posted times of 2:31.98 in the 200 IM and 1:07.70 in the butterfly.
Ankeny opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in a time of 2:00.05. That team consisted of Schafer, Lindaman, Blackmore and Paige Spoelstra.
The Hawkettes took the 200 freestyle relay in 1:46.39. That unit was comprised of Villhauer, Trosper, Blackmore and Lindaman.
Villhauer later anchored Ankeny to another victory in the 400 freestyle relay. She teamed up with Spoelstra, Schafer and Trosper to post a time of 3:57.63.
“This was one of our last meets together as an entire team as the season is coming to an end fast with our final regular season dual meet on Tuesday and then conference, regionals and state in the next month,” Rhoads said. “Just continuing to work hard, focusing on all the details, and having fun are what’s important right now. Stopping at A&W after the meet was fun as well.”
Ankeny will head to Southeast Polk on Tuesday for its final CIML Conference dual meet.
“The girls are pretty tired, but we are excited to close out the regular season and then start to get more rest to swim fast at the end of our season!” Rhoads said.
