The Ankeny football squad placed eight players on the Class 5A District 6 first team, including a trio of repeat picks in senior offensive lineman Lukis Beroth, senior place-kicker Ryan Harrington and junior running back Daniel Larmie.
Harrington converted all 27 of his PAT attempts and 11-of-15 field goals while also recording 31 touchbacks on 45 kickoffs. He helped the Hawks to a 6-5 record.
Beroth was the anchor of an offensive line that allowed Larmie to rush for 1,208 yards and 11 touchdowns on 186 carries. Larmie also caught 11 passes for 56 yards.
Senior receiver Evan Irlmeier was selected to a utility position. He caught 52 passes for 532 yards and five touchdowns.
The other first-team picks were senior offensive lineman Jack Dorfler, senior defensive lineman Andrew Haase, sophomore linebacker Dawson Whitinger and junior defensive back LaMarious Clark.
Whitinger led the team with 88 tackles, while Clark had 56 stops and a team-high five interceptions–including a pair of pick-6s. Haase made 50 tackles and had a team-high 7.5 sacks.
Ankeny placed seven players on the all-district second team, including senior defensive back Sam Sandvig. He was a repeat pick.
The other second-team selections were senior offensive lineman Landen Rutter, senior running back Caden Henkes, junior wide receiver Andrew Brandhorst, senior defensive lineman Karsten Bernholtz, senior linebacker Ez Pinks and senior defensive back Ben Taylor. Taylor was named to a utility position.
Senior defensive lineman Manning Allen earned all-district honorable mention for the second straight year. Senior quarterback Luke Anderson and junior offensive lineman Zach Breitbach also received honorable mention.
