Ankeny Centennial senior Jackson Reed has verbally committed to play baseball at Wartburg College.
Reed, an outfielder, called it a tough decision.
“I was thinking of maybe going juco and saving money, but I loved the coaches there and also their facilities,” said Reed.
Reed played in 31 games and started 28 times last season, helping the Jaguars to a 29-11 record. He earned all-conference honorable mention.
Reed batted .273 with nine doubles and a triple among his 21 hits. He scored 16 runs and knocked in 12 more.
Reed also enjoyed a successful season on the football field this fall, making 31 tackles as a defensive back and helping Centennial reach the Class 5A quarterfinals. He was named to the all-district second team.
Reed said he never considered playing that sport at the next level.
“I’ve always wanted to play baseball!” he said.
