About a month after teammate Luke Anderson committed to play football at Northwestern College, Ankeny offensive lineman Lukis Beroth committed to the Red Raiders as well.
Beroth announced his decision on Friday. Last weekend, he attended Northwestern’s quarterfinal game against Grand View in the NAIA Championship Series along with Anderson, the Hawks’ quarterback.
“I was actually on an admissions visit last Friday before the playoff game, and that’s what sold me!” Beroth said. “I talked to quite a few schools in D2, NAIA and D3, but my offers were from Northwestern, Morningside, Dordt and UW-Platteville. The D2 schools I was talking to actually all told me I was a little small to play there. By the end of my decision, I was between Northwestern and Platteville.”
The 5-foot-11, 260-pound Beroth helped the Hawks to a 6-5 record and a trip to the Class 5A quarterfinals this season. He was the anchor of the offensive line and also served as the long snapper.
A three-year starter, Beroth was named to the Class 5A all-state first team for the second straight season by the Iowa Football Coaches Association. He was also a repeat selection to the District 6 first team.
As a junior, Beroth helped Ankeny to a 9-4 mark and a runner-up finish in Class 5A. He was tabbed the lineman of the year in District 6.
