Heading into the final month of the season, the Ankeny girls’ bowling team remains unbeaten.
The boys’ squad, meanwhile, continues to search for its first victory.
The two teams once again came away with a split of Tuesday’s non-conference dual meet against Bondurant-Farrar at B-Roll Bowling. The girls’ team won by a score of 2,046 to 1,672 to raise its overall record to 6-0.
“I’m extremely proud of the way our teams are competing,” said Ankeny coach Nick Payton. “The varsity girls and JV girls competed. The varsity girls are currently undefeated and continuing to work through adversity on the season. Credit goes out to Bondurant-Farrar as they competed well and displayed good sportsmanship throughout the competition.”
Olivia Harris bowled back-to-back games of 151 and 150 for a 301 series to lead Ankeny.
“The Ankeny girls had a great baker average of almost 150 and won the baker series by 735-604 over our girls,” said Bondurant-Farrar coach Rick Dobesh, who lives in Ankeny.
Ella Haselhoff led the way with a 248 series for the Bondurant-Farrar girls, who dropped to 2-7 overall.
In the boys’ meet, Bondurant-Farrar won by a score of 1,902-1,785. The Bluejays improved to 6-3, while Ankeny fell to 0-6.
“The varsity boys are continuing to work through adversity, and I am proud of how they are responding to the rollercoaster of a season,” Payton said. “The JV boys continue to get better each week. I am proud of how they compete and their willingness to learn.”
Joel Hansen led Ankeny with a 302 series, including a high game of 173. George Inman had a high game of 155 and a 294 series.
Sebastian Cook bowled a 253 total, Preston Carr rolled a 188, and Anders Peck had a 183.
“The Ankeny boys dropped a close one,” Dobesh said. “The baker series was tight with Bondurant-Farrar winning that by only 19 pins (584-565).”
Andrew Benn and Braydin Phipps each had a high game of 159 for Bondurant-Farrar. Benn finished with a 286 series.
Ankeny will host a CIML Conference dual meet against Southeast Polk on Thursday. The Southeast Polk boys and girls are 6-1 and 5-2, respectively.
