The Drake football program has landed another recruit from Ankeny Centennial.
Shortly after linebacker Reed Anderson committed to play for the Bulldogs next fall, fellow senior Chase Kluver followed suit. He becomes the latest player to join the first recruiting class for new Drake coach Joe Woodley, who took over the program after leading Grand View to the NAIA national championship.
Kluver, a two-way starter for the Jaguars last season, had previously committed to the University of Sioux Falls in early August.
“It was a recent adjustment for me,” said Kluver. “Drake reached out a couple weeks ago and gave me an opportunity I couldn’t decline. Sioux Falls had always been great to me and nothing has changed, but I think Drake is a great fit for me.”
Kluver was named to the Class 5A all-state second team as a defensive back by the Iowa Football Coaches Association. He made 16 tackles and also intercepted a pass while helping Centennial to an 8-3 record and a trip to the Class 5A quarterfinals.
Kluver was selected to the District 1 first team as a quarterback, where he saw most of his action. He completed 96-of-148 passes for 1,511 yards and 15 touchdowns.
As a junior, Kluver helped the Jaguars to a 7-5 record and a Class 5A semifinals appearance. He was named to the all-district second team after recording 49 tackles and three interceptions.
