The ninth-ranked Ankeny wrestling team closed out the regular season on Thursday with a 45-24 victory at No. 20 Urbandale.
The Hawks were also slated to wrestle No. 11 Norwalk, but that meet was cancelled.
“When the regional dual pairings were announced, it was agreed upon with Norwalk that we would not wrestle tonight,” said Ankeny coach Jack Wignall. “They are our first dual at the regional dual, and they are also in our district tournament. There’s no need to see them three times in two weeks.”
Ankeny recorded four falls against the J-Hawks, including back-to-back first-period pins by Cameron Andersen at 165 pounds and Jacob Schlee at 175. Andersen pinned Oliver Gray in 1 minute 18 seconds, then Schlee flattened Aiden Forinash in 1:19 to give the Hawks a commanding 30-9 lead after eight matches.
Ankeny won nine of the 14 matches. Brady Claeys posted a 4-3 decision over 12th-ranked Dayne Rew at 144.
The Hawks finished 5-3 in the CIML Conference and improved their overall record to 16-5.
Wignall’s team will now travel to Carlisle on Tuesday for a Class 3A regional dual. Ankeny will face Norwalk in the opening round, with the winner to meet No. 8 Carlisle for a trip to the state duals.
The Hawks edged Norwalk by three points to win the Bob Sharp Invitational on Jan. 18 at Ankeny.
