“Once a Hawk, Always a Hawk.”
For Ankeny defensive back Mykal Johnson, that phrase actually describes his transition next year to the collegiate level.
The 5-foot-8, 175-pound senior has announced his verbal commitment to play football for the Quincy University Hawks of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The NCAA Division II school is located in Quincy, Ill.
“I looked at some schools like Drake, Wartburg, Loras and Northwest Missouri State,” said Johnson. “It was a tough decision because I wanted to find a place that was home and find a place where I can thrive and learn, and Quincy was the best fit.”
Johnson made 7.5 tackles last season. He helped the Hawks to a 6-5 record.
Now, Johnson is ready for the next challenge.
“I loved the coaches at Quincy, and I loved the bond that their players have,” Johnson said. “They are building something special at Quincy, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
