The Ankeny boys’ track team is well known for its collection of outstanding sprinters, hurdlers and distance runners.
But the Hawks are pretty strong in the field events as well.
Ankeny scored a total of 25 points in the jumping and throwing events at the Urbandale Invitational on Tuesday. There were no official results beyond those four events because the timing system went down at the meet.
Still, Ankeny coach Jordan Mullen was pleased with his team’s effort.
“We competed well with a mixed squad, and I’m very happy about that!” Mullen said. “The highlight of the meet was our field events!”
Ryan Tomlinson won the shot put with a throw of 51 feet 5 inches. He placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 151-1.
“All of our throwers are just competing and setting the standard chasing each other every meet!” Mullen said. “They were highlighted by two monster PRs out of Ryan. Their squad goal is to get to state and put themselves in contention for a point or two, and they are well on track for that. I am so happy and excited for that group and can’t wait to see what the end of the year has in store for them!”
Landon Pote captured the high jump for the Hawks. He tied his personal record by clearing the bar at 6 feet 4 inches.
“I feel like Landon’s got a lot more in the tank!” Mullen said.
Dylan Panther added a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 17-10.5.
