The Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial football teams already knew that they would be playing each other this fall.
Now, the crosstown rivals know the exact date.
Schedules for the 2018 and 2019 seasons have been released by the Iowa High School Athletic Association. The Hawks and Jaguars will meet in the season opener in each of the next two years.
Ankeny will host the Jaguars on Aug. 24, 2018. Centennial will host the Hawks on Aug. 30, 2019.
Here are some other highlights from the schedules:
*Both Ankeny teams will play five-time defending Class 4A state champion Dowling Catholic on back-to-back weeks in the next two seasons. The Maroons will host Centennial in the final non-district game on Sept. 14 this fall, then will host Ankeny in the District 1 opener the following week. In 2019, Dowling will make two consecutive trips to Ankeny to play the Jaguars on Sept. 20 and the Hawks on Sept. 27.
*Ankeny picks up a new non-district opponent in Cedar Falls. The Hawks will host Cedar Falls on Sept. 7, then will visit Cedar Falls on Sept. 13, 2019.
*Centennial also picks up a new non-district opponent in Waterloo West. The Jaguars will visit Waterloo on Sept. 7, then will host the Wahawks on Sept. 13, 2019.
