The Ankeny Centennial boys’ 4×800 relay team was hoping for a fast start from Ahren Davis on Saturday at the Drake Relays.
It took two tries, but the Jaguars got what they needed.
After a re-start was called when one of the runners fell to the track, Davis ran a strong opening leg for Centennial. He covered the first 800 meters in a split of 2:02.56, putting the Jaguars in seventh place.
Centennial went on to finish 14th in a field of 17 teams. Davis combined with Jonah Vicker, Seth Pippett and Jayden Oshirak to post a time of 8:18.34.
Cedar Rapids Prairie won the race in 7:56.84. Mike Jasa ran the anchor leg in 1:56.08 for the Hawks.
