The Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team took advantage of Monday’s beautiful weather to defeat Urbandale, 199-227, in a CIML Central Conference dual meet at the Urbandale Golf and Country Club.
The Jaguars finished with a 2-3 record in the conference.
“It was a gorgeous night,” said Centennial coach John Petersen. “I was happy with the way we played. Sure, there were a few bad shots, but overall we hit the ball pretty well.”
Centennial’s Lauren Sease carded a 3-over-par 40 on the front nine to earn medalist honors for the fourth time this season. She played the last five holes in even par, highlighted by a birdie on the par-5 No. 8 hole.
Megan Lazear was the runner-up with a 51. Lexi Simpson shot a 52, Claire Beath had a 56, Grace Meter fired a 60, and Morgan Kinch added a 64.
“One thing I’ve learned about coaching golf–I’m happier than the players are about the way they played,” Petersen said. “Golf is a sport that everyone wants perfection, but nobody can achieve perfection.”
Centennial will compete in the Central Conference meet on Wednesday at Jester Park, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
