Sophomore Maddy LaVoi is a member of the sixth-ranked Ankeny Centennial girls’ cross country team.
LaVoi placed 26th in the Bobcat Invitational on Sept. 10 at Marshalltown. She posted a time of 20 minutes 25 seconds to help the Jaguars to a third-place finish.
“Maddy’s performance at the Marshalltown meet was a pleasant surprise,” said Centennial coach Eric Cogdill. “Not only was she a late add to our varsity lineup as the 10th runner, but she scored in our top five while competing in her first-ever varsity race. Along the way, she bettered her lifetime best by over a minute. In this challenging year of athletes being quarantined from close classroom contact, it is so nice to have Maddy (and others) who can step up to contribute to the team score.”
