The Ankeny Centennial boys’ tennis team has earned a rematch against Waukee.
The Jaguars posted a 5-2 victory over visiting Urbandale in the final of a Class 2A substate team tournament on Friday. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the state team tournament and will host Waukee on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Waukee, which rolled to a 5-0 win over Ames in another substate final, posted a 9-2 victory over Centennial on April 27.
“We are on to state,” Centennial coach Tami Lewton said after Friday’s win. “We had a couple of rain delays, but all of our players were in it to win it.”
The Jaguars (9-4) got singles victories from Will Blevins, Caleb Peterson, Nic Mackaman and Wesley Clark. Peterson and Mackaman then clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 doubles.
“We came out of singles strong with four wins,” Lewton said. “And then Caleb and Nic got down to business quickly.”
