Four players from both the Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial softball teams have been named to the academic all-state team by the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association.
Senior outfielders Madeleine Murphy and Shelby Romig were among the Ankeny players honored. The others were senior infielders Alex Brooks and Hannah Hogan.
Senior catcher Ella Schulz was among Centennial’s honorees. The others were senior pitcher Maggie Fisher, senior infielder Anna Christiansen and senior outfielder Morgan Severseike.
The 10th-ranked Jaguars will take a 31-9 record into this week’s Class 5A state tournament at Fort Dodge. They will play No. 6 Iowa City High (33-7) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Ankeny finished the season with a 21-17 mark after falling to Centennial, 4-2, in a regional semifinal on Monday.
