Former Ankeny Centennial place-kicker Scott Talmadge and former Ankeny quarterback Blaine Hawkins have been honored by the American Rivers Conference for their performances on Saturday.
Talmadge, a freshman at Loras College, was named the football special teams player of the week. He made all three of his field-goal attempts–two of them from 36 yards out–in the Duhawks’ 21-13 win over Simpson College.
Talmadge also averaged 60.8 yards on six kickoffs. He booted one kick into the end zone for a touchback.
It was the first career special teams player of the week honor for Talmadge, who has helped the Duhawks to a 3-2 record. On Sept. 25, he kicked a 37-yard field goal with 30 seconds left to give Loras a 31-30 victory at Nebraska Wesleyan.
Hawkins, meanwhile, was named the American Rivers male athlete of the week as well as the football offensive player of the week. A senior at Central College, he passed for six touchdowns as the Dutch posted a 49-24 victory over Wartburg to remain unbeaten in league play.
Hawkins completed 21-of-29 passes for 297 yards. He helped lead the Dutch to 456 yards of total offense.
Hawkins is a two-time all-conference performer and the 2019 ARC Most Valuable Player. This is his eighth career offensive player of the week honor.
