Sisters Emmy and Mady Ott each blasted a pair of home runs and combined for six RBIs to lead the second-ranked Ankeny Centennial softball team to a 10-3 victory over No. 6 Southeast Polk in the Class 5A state tournament on Wednesday at Harlan Rogers Park in Fort Dodge.
The Jaguars (41-3) defeated Southeast Polk for the second straight day and advanced to Friday’s title game against No. 1 Waukee Northwest, the defending champion. Like Centennial, the Wolves (39-4) went unbeaten during bracket play in the new double-elimination format.
Emmy Ott hit a leadoff homer in the second inning to give the Jaguars a 3-0 lead. She hit another leadoff blast in the fourth, her seventh of the season, to make it 5-1.
Mady Ott led off the third inning with a homer, then later blasted a three-run shot in the sixth to complete the scoring. It was her third home run in two games, her 18th of the year and the Jaguars’ 92nd.
Peyten Spiegel (18-1) earned the victory, allowing three earned runs on five hits over the first six innings. Lauren Sandholm, who tossed a three-hit shutout to beat the Rams (26-18) on Tuesday, then got the final three outs.
