The Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team celebrated its Senior Night on Tuesday at Briarwood Golf Club.
Unfortunately, the Jaguars couldn’t celebrate a victory, too.
Centennial dropped a 181-197 decision to Waukee Northwest in its CIML Iowa Conference opener. The Jaguars were coming off a runner-up finish in the Centennial Invitational on Monday.
“The girls were disappointed with their play,” said Centennial coach John Petersen. “We talked about golf being an up-and-down sport…some good days and some not so good. The best golfers have the ability to bounce back either hole-by-hole or round-by-round. So I am excited to get the girls back on the course Friday at Fort Dodge.”
Payton Drefke carded a 48 to lead the Jaguars. She made a pair of pars.
Olivia Joensen also had two pars and finished with a 49. Kaitlyn Ault and Grace Miller each fired a 50, Vivian Wilson had a 60, and Samantha Lazear added a 62.
Hannah Pettit of Waukee Northwest shot a 42 to earn medalist honors. Teammate Jenna Van Bell was the runner-up with a 45.
