The state champion Ankeny Christian Academy volleyball team has placed four players on the Class 1A South Central all-district team by the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association.
Setter Katie Quick and middle hitter Anna Weathers were both selected to the squad along with outside hitters Carley Craighead and Macey Nehring. The four sophomores led the Eagles to the school’s first state championship in any team sport.
ACA coach Michele Quick was also honored. She was named the district coach of the year after guiding her team to a 39-3 record, including an 18-match winning streak to close out the season.
Four Ankeny players and two more from Ankeny Centennial also received all-district honors from the IGCA.
Senior setter Jesa Wallace, senior libero Sydney Otto, junior outside hitter Aowyn Schrader and junior right-side hitter Tanith Roush of Ankeny were all named to the Class 5A West team. The Hawkettes won the CIML Conference title and finished with a 35-5 mark.
The Ankeny quartet was joined on the all-district team by outside hitter Delaney Miller and middle hitter Jaeden Pratt of Centennial. The two sophomores led the Jaguars to a 30-10 record and a trip to the Class 5A semifinals.
