Both Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial will host Class 3A regional wrestling duals on Jan. 31.
The fourth-ranked Hawks (19-1) will host either No. 13 Bondurant-Farrar or No. 19 Iowa City High in the regional final. Those two teams will meet in the preliminary round at 6 p.m., with the winner advancing to face Ankeny.
The Hawks defeated Bondurant-Farrar, 39-21, in the championship match of the Dave Ewing Duals on Saturday. Each team won seven matches, but all of the Bluejays’ victories came by decision while Ankeny had six pins among its wins.
The No. 6 Jaguars (20-5), meanwhile, will host either No. 10 Carlisle or No. 23 Dowling Catholic in the regional final. Those two teams will meet in the preliminary round at 6 p.m., with the winner advancing to face Centennial.
The Jaguars have already met both teams this season. They posted a 31-29 win over Carlisle at the Centennial Duals on Dec. 10, and they rolled to a 57-22 victory over Dowling on Thursday.
The winner of each regional will advance to the state duals tournament on Feb. 4 at Xtream Arena in Coralville.
Ankeny is seeking its second straight state duals appearance under coach Jack Wignall. The Hawks placed sixth a year ago.
Centennial finished third in 2019 in its only state duals appearance in school history.
