The pairings have been announced for the Class 3A state duals wrestling tournament.

Fourth-seeded Ankeny (20-2) will meet fifth-seeded Valley in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Xtream Arena in Coralville. The CIML Conference rivals met on Jan. 12 at Valley, where the Hawks posted a 42-23 victory.

Ankeny is making its second straight appearance in the state duals tournament. The Hawks placed sixth a year ago.

Sixth-seeded Ankeny Centennial (21-6) will face third-seeded Waverly-Shell Rock in the quarterfinals at 11 a.m. Waverly-Shell Rock is the defending champion.

The Jaguars are making their second appearance in the tournament in school history. They placed third in 2019.

Ankeny’s JJ Maihan battles Justis Jesuroga of Southeast Polk in the 120-pound match during Thursday’s dual meet at Ankeny. The Ankeny-Valley winner will face either No. 1 Southeast Polk or No. 8 Dubuque Hempstead in the semifinals at 3 p.m. If Centennial can upset Waverly-Shell Rock, the Jaguars would meet either No. 2 Bettendorf or No. 7 Fort Dodge in the semifinals.

The Hawks dropped a 45-12 decision to Southeast Polk on Thursday, but could get a rematch against the Rams on Saturday.

“I’d love it,” Ankeny coach Jack Wignall said of the possibility.

The consolation semifinals will be held at 1 p.m. The fifth- and seventh-place matches will be held at 6:30 p.m., with the championship and third-place matches to follow at 8:30 p.m.

Waverly-Shell Rock posted a 30-26 win over Southeast Polk in last year’s title match.
