Some great conditions and a home-course advantage helped the Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf team defeat a pair of opponents in a CIML Conference triangular meet on Wednesday at Briarwood Golf Club.
The Jaguars shot a 180, while Waukee carded a 187 and Johnston finished with a 194. All three teams had played in the Dragon Invitational on Monday at Jester Park, where the Dragons placed fifth with a 381 to edge Centennial (384) and the Warriors (390).
“I was happy with our play today,” said Centennial coach John Petersen, whose team finished with a 4-4 dual record in the league. “We continue to work on our confidence. I hope our success today can kick-start some more success as we get closer to the postseason.”
The Jaguars were led by Payton Drefke, who carded a 3-over-par 39 on the front nine to earn medalist honors for the fourth time this season. She made a par on the first four holes.
“I was happy to have bounced back from my previous meet,” said Drefke, who shot an 88 on Monday. “I felt a lot more confident today, and the conditions really helped that! It was nice to have a meet without having to worry too much about the wind.”
Adria Steinmetz of Waukee was the runner-up. She fired a 44.
Centennial’s Vivian Wilson shot a 45. Adelynne Peterson had a 47, Olivia Joensen carded a 49, Brooke Ridout had a 50, and Kate Geiselhart added a 52.
Wilson and Joensen were among the players honored on Senior Night.
The Jaguars will play in the Waukee Invitational on Monday at River Valley.
