The Ankeny girls’ golf squad placed eighth among 11 teams in the Southeast Polk Invitational on Thursday at Copper Creek.
The Hawkettes posted a score of 391, their best 18-hole round of the season.
“It was another gorgeous day to play, and our girls played the best golf they have collectively all year,” said Ankeny coach Seth Hagarty. “Even though we came in eighth place as a team, I was still very proud of them all!”
Gracie Block led Ankeny with a 13th-place finish. She carded an 88, including a birdie on the par-3, No. 15 hole.
“Gracie picked up right where she left off on Wednesday and set another PR by going 44 on the front and followed it up with another 44 on the back!” Hagarty said. “This was her first time breaking 90, and her excitement was just amazing! She even had her first-ever birdie! I am so proud of her and the work that she has put in!”
Addison Smith shot a 99 for the Hawkettes, while Isabella Ross fired a 100. Gia Blaser and Jori Webb each had a 104, and Ava Sesker finished with a 122.
“All of the girls have been working hard in practice, and it’s really starting to pay off at the right time!” Hagarty said. “Hopefully, this beautiful weather is here to stay for the rest of the season!”
Third-ranked Southeast Polk shot a 337 on its home course to win the team title. No. 8 Valley, the four-time defending champion, was second with a 341.
Natalie Henson of Marshalltown carded a 1-under-par 70 to earn medalist honors. Hallie Yates of Valley was the runner-up with a 71.
Ankeny will compete in the Waukee Invitational on Monday at River Valley.
