Monday’s Waukee Invitational at River Valley Golf Course in Adel provided one last opportunity for the Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf teams to tune up for the postseason.
The Jaguars placed sixth in the 12-team field. They posted a score of 371.
“We played a course today that no one had played before,” said Centennial coach John Petersen. “The course was a great test as we get close to conference and regionals.”
Ankeny, meanwhile, finished in 10th place. The Hawkettes shot a 410.
“River Valley was a new course for us along with several other teams, so we kind of had to figure things out as we went along,” said Ankeny coach Seth Hagarty. “But overall, I was very proud of the way we played today.”
Third-ranked Southeast Polk carded a 330 to claim the team title. No. 10 Ames was the runner-up with a 341, followed by No. 8 Valley with a 361.
Hallie Yates of Valley shot an even-par 72 to earn medalist honors. Rylin Davidson of Southeast Polk was the runner-up with a 74.
Centennial’s Payton Drefke and Ankeny’s Isabella Ross each fired an 88. They placed 14th and 15th, respectively.
Vivian Wilson and Olivia Joensen each shot a 91 for the Jaguars. Kate Geiselhart carded a 101, Adelynne Peterson had a 103, and Brooke Ridout added a 114.
“We were happy with our results, but we still feel like we can lower our scores,” Petersen said.
Gia Blaser shot a 96 for the Hawkettes.
“I was really happy for both Isabella and Gia today,” Hagarty said. “They have both been working very hard the past couple of weeks to get out of this little funk they were in, and today they were all smiles and really happy with the way they played.”
Ankeny’s Gracie Block shot a 110. Jori Webb carded a 116, Ava Sesker had a 117, and Addison Smith finished with a 120.
Both teams will compete in the CIML Conference meet on Wednesday at Jester Park.
“I hope the weather will be as great as it was today!” Hagarty said.
