The Ankeny Centennial girls’ golf squad took sixth in the CIML Conference meet on Wednesday at Jester Park, while Ankeny finished eighth in the nine-team field.
Third-ranked Southeast Polk shot a 326 to win the team title. No. 6 Waukee Northwest was second with a 331, followed by No. 8 Valley with a 337.
Centennial and Dowling Catholic each finished with a 369. The Maroons placed fifth based on a better fifth score.
“We were a little disappointed with our sixth-place finish,” said Centennial coach John Petersen. “We lost way too many strokes with our short games. We need to get that secure before we go to Veenker for regionals.”
Ankeny posted a score of 397.
“I was honestly very happy with all of the girls’ play today,” said Ankeny coach Seth Hagarty. “They held it together through some rough holes and bounced back quickly. Like I said in the beginning of the season, our goals are to have fun and improve and we certainly did that today.”
Hannah Pettitt of Northwest carded a 2-over-par 74 to earn medalist honors. She finished two strokes ahead of runner-up Hallie Yates of Valley.
Payton Drefke carded an 83 to lead Centennial. She placed 10th as an individual and earned second-team all-conference honors.
Isabella Ross fired a 92 for the Hawkettes. She took 22nd and earned third-team all-conference honors.
“I was very happy for Isabella,” Hagarty said. “She played very solid and consistent golf for the majority of her round. She certainly left a few strokes out there, but regardless she was happy with her round.”
Ross was joined on the all-conference third team by Kate Geiselhart, who shot a 93 for the Jaguars. She finished in 24th place.
Centennial’s Vivian Wilson fired a 95. Olivia Joensen had a 98, Adelynne Peterson carded a 100, and Brooke Ridout added a 107.
Ankeny’s Gia Blaser shot a 94. Gracie Block had a 105, Addison Smith carded a 106, and Ava Sesker had a 124.
The Hawkettes will host a conference dual meet against Southeast Polk on Monday at Otter Creek before traveling to Waterloo on Wednesday for a Class 4A regional meet.
“We rest up a bit the rest of this week and focus on the areas in most need of improvement, and then we’ll be ready for next week!” Hagarty said.
The Jaguars will compete in a regional meet at Veenker Golf Course in Ames.
