The Ankeny girls’ golf team closed out its dual-meet season on Monday with a 156-199 loss to third-ranked Southeast Polk at Otter Creek.
The Hawkettes finished with a 0-8 record in the CIML Conference.
“First, hats off to all of the Southeast Polk players and their coaches,” said Ankeny coach Seth Hagarty. “They truly are a state championship caliber team. All of their players do a great job of limiting their mistakes and capitalizing when they need to. But most importantly, they are amazing young women and extremely polite and humble! I wish them all the best in their regional meet Wednesday and the state meet next week.”
The Rams were led by Rylin Davidson, who shot a 2-over-par 37 on the back nine to earn medalist honors. Teammate Anna Wahman was the runner-up with a 39.
Gracie Block fired a 46 to lead Ankeny. She made a birdie on the par-3, No. 13 hole.
“Gracie had another great round!” Hagarty said.
Gia Blaser shot a 49 for the Hawkettes. Addison Smith carded a 51, Isabella Ross had a 53, Jori Webb fired a 57, and Ava Sesker added a 64.
“We struggled quite a bit out there,” Hagarty said. “We got in the tall grass and with the rain we’ve had the past few days, the grass has grown significantly and was difficult to get out of at times! We will work on some little things (Tuesday) in practice and wake up very early and head to Waterloo on Wednesday!”
The Hawkettes will compete in a Class 4A regional meet at Irv Warren Golf Course in Waterloo.
