Taking advantage of nine walks and two hit batters, the Ankeny baseball team used two big innings to defeat visiting Davenport Central, 14-7, in a non-conference game on Tuesday.
Ankeny (3-4) scored eight runs in the third inning to erase an early 1-0 deficit. After Central clawed its way back to within 8-5 in the top of the sixth, the Hawks answered with six runs in the bottom of the frame.
Evan Irlmeier doubled and drove in three runs in the win. Kinnick Vos went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Ryan Maire also went 2-for-3 and knocked in two runs.
Max Watson went 2-for-4. He also had an RBI.
Nick Meyer (1-1) tossed five innings to earn the victory. He allowed two earned runs on four hits and had three strikeouts.
The Blue Devils dropped to 2-3 on the season.
Ankeny will play a CIML Conference game at Waukee (2-3) on Wednesday.
