Ankeny Christian Academy volleyball star Katie Quick will be staying close to home after graduation.
The junior has verbally committed to play for Drake, beginning in the fall of 2025. She announced her decision on social media Wednesday.
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to Drake University to continue my volleyball and academic career!” Quick tweeted. “I am blessed that God has given me this opportunity! Thanks to my parents, Coach McBroom, Coach Hillegas, and Coach Majors for making this possible! Go Bulldogs”
Quick said she had multiple offers and considered several schools before picking Drake, which posted a 30-8 record a year ago under coach Darrin McBroom.
“I visited Central Missouri as well as Drake,” Quick said. “It wasn’t too tough of a decision–Drake just felt like the right fit! I love the program, and the coaches are amazing! The players were very welcoming, and it is a very highly regarded academic school! Coach McBroom and his staff have done a great job of building the program, and I’m excited about what the future holds for this program!”
Quick, a setter, led the Eagles to their first state championship last season. She was named to the Class 1A all-state first team.
Quick led the entire state with 112 aces as a sophomore. One of the state’s best all-around players, she also racked up 842 assists, 195 kills, 32 blocks and 194 digs.
Quick’s family won’t have to travel far to watch her play in college.
“I was looking to stay within a couple hour range, but it really works out nice that Drake is just about 15 minutes from my home!” Quick said. “I’m looking forward to being a Bulldog!”
