One night after Indianola pounded 15 aces in a season-opening win over the Ankeny Centennial volleyball team, the sixth-ranked Jaguars had 11 of their own and bounced back with a sweep over visiting Waukee in their CIML Conference opener on Tuesday.
Centennial rolled to a 25-16, 25-12, 25-12 victory to even its overall record at 1-1. It was the season opener for the Warriors.
“After our first match, we knew that wasn’t who we are and knew we had to have a quick turnaround for our game against Waukee,” said Centennial junior Delaney Miller. “We just brushed off our first game and came back with confident attitudes knowing that we were going to win and having confidence in ourselves and each other. After that first loss, we knew we had to unite and rely on each other so that we got back to playing like ourselves!”
Miller racked up 16 kills and two aces in the win. Kambria Leazer dished out 26 assists.
Anna Sash completed all 16 of her serves and had three aces for the Jaguars. She also contributed seven kills while hitting .700 for the night and added three blocks.
Jaeden Pratt had three kills, six digs and three aces. Finley Greiner and Ava Kronenberg each added three kills apiece.
Mya Lei-Butters led the defense with 12 digs. She also completed all 14 of her serves.
“I think our team played a lot better,” said Centennial coach Jessica Rinehart. “We were much more settled and confident on the court. We took control of the match early, stayed in system throughout the night and cut down on unforced errors. I’m proud of our team for bouncing back quickly and ensuring a different outcome.”
The Jaguars will host the Centennial Invitational on Saturday.
